A Family Grows {New Baby} | Reno, NV Newborn Photographer

The “D” family ended up being a last-minute session for me because I was filling in for a friend.  Birth photographer, Jessica, over at Happy Tears Studios, had something come up last minute and needed me to fill in for her.  Could I possibly say no to a newborn?  Heck no!  I’m so glad I got to be there and to photograph the D family and their new little girl!  Even though she was outside of my typical newborn window (usually the first 10 days is best), she was a dream to work with!  She slept well, didn’t fuss, and even let me get her into some poses which are a bit tricky for some babies.  I love my job!  The D family was up for anything, and were a lot of fun to hang out with!  Thanks for having me, and for letting me capture portraits of your family’s newest addition!

Not only was the littlest member of the family a dream, but her older sister and brother were equally as amazing, cooperative, and CUTE!  What a gorgeous family!  Enjoy this little peek at the D family!

Lake Tahoe Beauty {expecting} | Lake Tahoe Maternity Photographer

I am so excited to share this beautiful Lake Tahoe maternity session with you!  We braved the snow to have some fun and to capture some beautiful images of miss E’s beautiful belly before she has her baby sometime this month.  I can’t wait to photograph their newborn, too!  This fun couple was up for anything…scaling slippery rocks for a better view, making snow angels in non-snow clothes (thank you, L!  haha!), and even getting down to bare belly in the goddess wrap on the shore!  I think the resulting images are worth it. :)   We even got a couple of images in with the fur babies, which I think is important before the new baby arrives, too.  Maybe we can even sneak them into a couple of newborn shots when the time comes.  :)

Thank you E and L for braving the snow and cold to get these fun images!

Meet baby T, the adorable little girl born to parents A and B, who you saw featured in a maternity session just a couple of posts back!  If you’ll remember, T’s mama is a massage therapist in Reno, her business name is A Touch of Joy Massage, as well as an acro yoga teacher.  If you are in need of a massage, she does several kinds, including Thai massage!  Check her out, she’s amazing!  T’s dad is in the band Drinking With Clowns.  We had to work in some musical portraits to include something important to the family in their shoot.  Here’s what we came up with! Two different portraits with 2 of B’s guitars.  Also, since we did a few portraits of A in the goddess wrap for her maternity session, I thought we should use the wrap for her newborn session, as well.

The love in this family makes my heart sing!  They are such amazing, down to earth, beautiful people, and I know they will raise an amazing daughter!  Thank you A and B for trusting me to capture this amazing and special time in your lives!  I can’t wait to watch baby T grow!

Baby R {Brand New} | Fallon, NV Newborn Photographer

Little baby R is one cute baby!  Wearing the handmade, awesome cloth diapers by Little Smudgeez (well, not for most of these photos, but he is wearing one in the top photo…), he’s quite the dapper little guy!  This is one of my favorite locations of all-time.  For those of you who don’t know, I travel to my client’s homes to do their portraits.  I try to make it as easy as possible on new parents to get beautiful, timeless newborn portraits, and even a family portrait or two by coming to their homes rather than making them pack up their new baby and siblings to head out to a studio to sit and wait around.  Newborn sessions can take a while, so families get to relax in their own homes while I help soothe baby and capture amazing portraits of them.  Little R slept really well, and his family lives in an amazing location, filled with fantastic antiques which make fabulous props for newborn sessions.  Every corner of the home is beautifully decorated, which is a newborn photographer’s dream!

Thank you to little R’s family for trusting me to capture these memories for you.

Baby Bump! {Pregnancy} | Fallon, NV maternity photographer

I can’t believe I never blogged this session!  Time to fix that!

Here is the lovely co-owner of the local company, Little Smudgeez.  They make the most amazing, soft, organic bamboo velour cloth diapers!  They come in cute patterns, in three adjustable sizes (newborn, size 1, and size 2), and have a snap-in soaker.  I <3 their diapers!  They are amazing and one of the only diapers we’ve been able to use without leaks.  If you are in the market for cloth diapers, check them out!  They are based in Fallon, NV.  Buy local!

Back to this blog post, or what it should be about, anyway.  Meet Adrienne and her beautiful family.  Mother of three boys now, this is her maternity session that we got to do on their amazing ranch this summer.  Her two older boys were fun and rambunctious, and I knew we had to grab a couple of fun, unique shots of them.  Oh, and don’t you just love that cow?  Her name is milkshake, and Adrienne dutifully milks her twice a day!  I really like to come up with things that are fun and unique and really tell the story of my clients.  I think our lasso shot does that!  :) I also love the last shot here, the boys walking with the pinwheel.  I shot it to freeze the boys walking, but capture the motion of the pinwheel.  It’s one of my favorite images!

Enjoy these images of Adrienne and her family, and I’ll blog about her newborn (well, not-so-newborn now!) next!

Beauty of the Bump! {Pregnancy is beautiful} | Reno/Sparks area Maternity Photographer

I just love capturing the beauty of pregnancy.  There is a point at which, during most pregnancies, a woman starts to feel a bit large and uncomfortable.  I know I felt like I was waddling and everything required greater effort to do.  I didn’t have much room to breathe, and everything felt squished!  Though pregnancy is not the most comfortable of conditions, it sure is beautiful!  That little, amazing, tiny human being growing inside is really a wonder!  I encourage moms to get maternity portraits done to capture that glow, that beauty of this wondrous experience.  I’ve found that once the baby is born and the bump fades, a lot of moms forget just what they looked like when they were close to giving birth.  I know I did!  I love when families ask me to capture this amazing moment in time and freeze a little glimpse of what it was like carrying their baby.  Thank you to this amazing, beautiful couple for allowing me to be the person who captures this moment for you!

Now that I have rambled on a bit, let me tell you a little about  A and B, the amazing parents in this beautiful session.  I don’t think A showed it if she was at all uncomfortable, being such a fit mama to start meant that she didn’t have a lot of trouble with the extra bump!  A is an acrobatic yoga instructor locally, and B is a musician playing in the local band, Drinking With Clowns.  Such wonderful, nice, down-to-earth people!  A is always amazing and gorgeous, and I think pregnancy made her glow and sparkle just a little more.  You can just see the love!  Their beautiful baby, T, has arrived and I’ll be blogging about her next, so you won’t have to wait long to see their gorgeous newborn!  Congratulations!

Baby M {Precious Baby} | Reno, NV Newborn Photographer

I realize I’ve neglected my poor blog, but never fear, your northern Nevada newborn photographer is here!  I’m here, just busy.  A combination of shoots and life sort of swamped everything else for a while.  I will try to be better so my loyal fans have some beautiful photographs to see!  :)

Let’s get back into the swing of things with little baby M.  I just adore those sweet little pouty lips!  And that beautiful, colorful hat was made by a friend of theirs, I love it!

Turning One! {Baby’s first birthday} | Sparks, NV Portrait Photographer

Nothing like turning 1 and getting to smash your very own slice of cake!  Little Landon and his family have been clients of mine since before he was born!  I love this family, and am so glad I’ve gotten to see Landon grow!  We did some family portraits, then a mini-cake smash session.  Here are a few of my favorites. I can’t show you more of the family images until after Christmas, though.  ;)    I like the last one–that scrunched up, sad, adorable face!  That’s usually how these cake smash sessions end–a big mess and a few tears!  They were short-lived, though.

K and S, thank you for choosing me to continue to capture your family’s growth!

Smiling in his sleep | Newborn {Reno, NV Newborn Photography}

One thing I find cute and funny about newborns (wait, just one thing?  Well, no, not just one thing, but one of many!), is watching them sleep.  Of course, as a newborn photographer, sleeping newborns are kind of my thing.  It’s not just getting them to sleep and loving how pliable and adorable they are, it’s watching what they do when they sleep.  Sometimes, you can tell how they must have been posed in the womb, with legs and arms tucked close and tight in somewhat awkward positions.  Sometimes, you can see them dream.  I have to wonder what a brand new baby must dream about.  I mean, really, think about it.  What in the world do they have to dream about?  For the previous 9 months, they were floating in a sea of warmth and rocked to sleep by mom’s movements and the sound of her heartbeat intermixed with the sounds of familiar voices filtered through all that fluid.  There isn’t much to see there, really.  Once they are out in the world, they can really only focus about 6 inches away.  That doesn’t leave room for actually seeing or understanding what’s going on.  I suppose they must dream of mom, dad, and other family members.  Perhaps they dream of milk.  Or, of being back in that cozy womb.  Anyway, it’s quite endearing to watch a newborn dream, because they often break into smiles, and sometimes even hearty giggles.  These are not easily captured on camera, so I love it when I manage to catch one and preserve that memory.

Little baby K did just that.  He fell into a nice deep sleep, complete with dreams that had him twitching, whimpering, and yes, even smiling.  I just love baby dreams!  Thank you to K’s parents for asking me to come capture this fleeting time when baby K was so small.  I hope you’ll treasure these for a lifetime!

Brand New {6 days old} | Reno Tahoe Newborn Photographer

I love being a newborn photographer.  Maternity portraits are fun, and I love bringing out the beauty of the expecting mom, but I really love getting to play with those new, squishy, adorable babies!  I love how peaceful and sleepy they are, and how brand new they look.  It is best to get newborn pictures taken when the baby is under 10 days old to really capture how tiny they are and to get them to sleep the best.  Babies change so fast, they grow and their features get more defined, their hands and feet get bigger, and they just don’t look new for that long.  Of course, after 10 days you can, and should, still take photos of your little one, but don’t forget to take pictures or hire a professional in those very early days!  Newborn photography captures those brand new moments.  I even get a mix of in-home pictures (in the nursery, for example), and studio style portraits since I go to my clients and set up right in their homes.  :)

The E family hired me to come take newborn portraits of their new baby girl.  She was just 6 days old when I came to their home to photograph her.  She slept like a dream.  Her parents are very sweet and were great to work with.  Her dad is originally from Germany, so we had to incorporate a few things to celebrate baby E’s German heritage.  I met her mom at a yoga class (photos coming soon) where I photographed expecting mamas in their prenatal yoga class taught by Kimberly Allcock.  I am so glad that the E family chose me to capture this amazing, special time in their lives.  Thank you, E family!  Baby E is one lucky little girl!
