Note:  I just want to say that there has been a lot out there lately about newborn safety during a newborn portrait shoot.  It is really important to be sure that a baby is safe and supported at all times during a photo shoot.  I will not risk the safety of a newborn, they are always spotted and supported.  For example, the last shot in this post (Jaxsen on the wooden rocking horse), he was supported by mom’s hand under the blanket the entire time he was on the horse.  At no time was he sitting on the horse without someone holding him.  The final image has mom’s arm cloned out of the shot to give the appearance of him laying on the horse alone.  If you are shopping for a newborn photographer, please be sure that they take all precautions to keep the baby safe at all times.  It is not worth risking your baby’s safety for the sake of a photo.  Now, back to the point of this post…the adorable baby!

Without further ado, here’s Miss Kendall:

Jenny is one beautiful, peaceful mama.  I love her attitude that everything is laid back, it’ll all work out.  She’s very active, skiing, biking, hiking with her dogs and husband, I bet that will make her whole labor a smooth endeavor!  She was up for anything, even though it was freezing cold outside.  I’m so glad she was!  We braved the cold, January afternoon in Lake Tahoe with the breeze blowing, making it even colder.  I kept a large, fluffy, warm blanket on hand to wrap her between shots.  In the end, it was worth a few goosebumps for these!

Thank you, Jenny, for being up for anything and trusting me to take these portraits for you!  I can’t wait to meet your little guy!

My favorite image from the day is this one–goddess-like, flowing fabric in the breeze, with Jenny’s perfect baby bump, the sun, and the lake.  It doesn’t get much better than that!

M and J, I can’t wait to meet baby J!  Thank you for asking me to photograph your family, I enjoyed spending the evening with you!

I’ve known this family for 5 years now, since I was pregnant with my daughter.  In fact, the mama here is and has been my doctor since I was pregnant with my daughter.  It was so fun to spend some time with Dr. P’s family, her kids were full of energy and lots of fun!  They cracked me up with their ideas and their games.  There is a picture below of “J” laying on the grass…he told me he was being an “animal rug.”  I smile every time I look at these, and I hope the “P” family does, too!  Our session was on the north shore of Lake Tahoe where it was a little bit chilly, but not too bad.  The lake was absolutely gorgeous, that day, perfect for skipping rocks and for beautiful, silhouetted family portraits.

Thank you so much for asking me to take your family portraits this year, I hope they are enjoyed for years to come!
